MCCLAFFERTY AND CROFT OBTAIN $2 MILLION JURY VERDICT IN DEFAMATION CASE

McCandlish Lillard Litigation attorneys Alan Croft and Lawrence J. McClafferty recently obtained a jury verdict in excess of $2 million in a defamation case involving two dentists. Alan and Lawrence also successfully argued a post-trial motion for remittitur on the jury’s award of $200,000 on the opposing party’s counterclaim. The Fairfax County Circuit Court granted the motion and reduced the opposition’s verdict to just $25,000. Of special interest is the fact that the trial was postponed due to COVID after several weeks in March of 2020, but resumed in April of 2022—just down the hall from the Depp-Heard defamation trial.

Virginia Lawyers Weekly has provided coverage of the trial and verdict.
