Peter A. Arntson

Senior Counsel

Peter A. Arntson retired with 55 years of legal experience. His practice was devoted primarily to estate planning and administration, with a particular emphasis on the taxation of trusts and estates. His practice also included forming and advising partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies, closely held businesses, private foundations and public charitable organizations.

Peter is the Founder and for many years President of the Wakefield High School Education Foundation, a former Director and Trustee of the Benedictine School for Exceptional Children and its Foundation, and served for many years as an initial Trustee of the Arlington Community Foundation and a trustee of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation, and was a member of the Executive Board and more recently the Advisory Board of the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, as well as an Eagle Scout and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

Peter received his Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Virginia, and a Masters of Law in taxation (LLM) degree from Georgetown University Law Center and is a graduate of the United States Army War College. He is a retired U.S. Army Colonel.

Peter began his practice in Arlington with Philips, Kendrick, Gearhardt & Aylor in 1965, becoming a partner in 1970. In 1975, he became a partner in this firm.

Peter served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Tax Section of the Virginia State Bar. ย He is currently on the Board of Trustees for the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation.

  • Mr. Arntson has given numerous Continuing Legal Education programs for the Virginia State Bar and other organizations. He has also published law review articles on the Virginia Land Trust and on Individual Retirement Accounts.
